Governor Scott,
Please veto the supposed 1% tax swap for light rail here in Pinellas County and
elsewhere should it
surface. There is no clamor for light rail or high speed rail here in Florida by
the masses. This tax, like
the rail concept, is being foisted upon us by pathetic politicians who have
forgotten who elected them.
Highest on this list is Sen. Latvala and his water boy Rep. Ed Hooper.
We do not want to be taxed any further. We do not want to be taxed (approx. $128
million) for a one
track rail from St. Pete to Clearwater which no one will ride. I love my SUV and
have no plans on getting
rid of it. The Democrats and Rhinos in the republican party can forget it. And,
as for the PSTA, if it is
going broke it is because it is either badly managed/poorly run, does not make
economic sense due to lack of
ridership or insufficient ridership, etc. Let PSTA fail or downsize the big
buses to smaller vans with fewer
routes. Make PSTA find a bus transit solution that works, without subsidy ($3-9
million a year of subsidy
for the last few years), or let it go bankrupt, fail and be done away with.
I support the group NO TAX FOR TRACKS here in Pinellas County because I am one
of its members, have
donated money, time and effort towards its success.
Please veto this supposed 1% tax swap, which it is not (The PSTA yearly budget
is around $34 million plus
the subsidies vs. the 1% sales tax of $128 million approximately. This is no tax
swap it is a tax increase
by four fold.). We are not fooled. This is an unnecessary tax increase for
something we do not want or
need.
